An ex-soldier was on Sunday morning killed after he lost control of the motorcycle he was driving along the Coverden Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
Dead is 33-year-old Dexter Cole, a father of one, of Dowding Street, Kitty, Georgetown. He was also a member of the Assassin Riders Motorcycle Club.
Based on information received, the accident occurred between 08:00h and 09:30h as the now dead man and a few of his club members were heading to Georgetown.
Guyana Times understands that the young man raced ahead of the group and from all indications, the front wheel of the motorcycle fell into a hole, thus causing him to lose control. As a result, he was flung off the motorcycle into the air and eventually landed on the roadway.
The helmet he was wearing at the time was not properly strapped on and as he went into the air, it fell off. As he landed on the roadway, it is suspected that he would have suffered a broken neck.
His friends stood helplessly looking at him on the roadway as he was already dead. He was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where a doctor confirmed his death.
Friends of the dead young man took to social media expressing their sadness and offered words of comfort to his family.
“Father I pray that you comfort his siblings and his mom and all his love ones, that are in shock and grieving right now. Comfort his many friends Lord God, especially those that were riding with him. They are a group of decent young men, who just went for a Sunday morning ride. Probably to ease from the stress of confinement and all the negatives flying around, who knows, but God you know and you’re still in charge,” one friend stated.
