The Guyana Times Sport wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of former employee, Rene Stoby who passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
Stoby, a former sport journalist, possessed a passion for sport and it was clear in his delivery and writing. However, Stoby fell ill in 2016 and with the loss of his speech and mobility, was forced to quit his career as a sport journalist.
The illness, which has remained a mystery to medical practitioners, reportedly severely affected Stoby’s muscles. Since falling ill, Stoby continued to battle the dreaded illness up until his passing.
Remembered as an effervescent character, Stoby hailed from Linden and is also a former Marketing Agent attached to the National Communications Network (NCN). He entered the sport journalism world a few years after his brother, Rueben Stoby.
Stoby joined the Guyana Times Sport team in early 2016, where he extensively covered sport disciplines such as cycling, boxing, and weightlifting and even dabbled in football coverage. However, Stoby’s willingness to fill in for his then colleagues at events pertaining to any and all sport disciplines, is a true testament to his shining character.
Although the marketing expert and journalist only spent several months at this establishment, his jovial personality is one that radiated with all those who came into contact with him. Stoby leaves his parents, siblings and son to mourn.
May his soul rest in peace.
