Guyana’s very own Winston Forrester continues to impress in his striving to attain the glory of donning those West Indian maroons.

Speaking with Guyana Times Sport, the Georgetowner explained that cricket was something that had always captivated his interest as a child, but he began to take serious interest in the sport only when he began residing with his mom on Regent Street at the tender age of thirteen.
He revealed that what made his love for cricket grow even stronger was that his next door neighbour was Guyana’s national player Robin Bacchus, who at that time was one of the country’s best youth batsmen.
He said he and Bacchus would play a lot of cricket, and this helped to mould and influence him into the cricketer he is today.
He said Bacchus then took him to join the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) which was only 2 minutes’ travel from where he lived; and the rest is history.
Throughout his promising cricket career, Forrester has played for many clubs overseas. He has had stints in Trinidad, Canada, and currently New York.
Forrester recalled that as a young man growing up, he played a lot of two-day cricket and took quite a number of five-wicket hauls. He even recalled his spell of 6-33 against Everest Cricket Club, and the 178 he scored against Couva Sports Club while in Trinidad.
Forrester is currently in New York, where he represents the Big Apple Cricket Club. According to the all-rounder, “The Captain of the club, Jamal Hinckson, asked me to play with them. I knew Jamal from back home in Guyana; he played for DCC. He told me his club needed a batsman, and offered me the chance to come and play cricket in the US”, Forrester revealed.
Forrester says his team recently won the 40 overs title in the Eastern American Cricket League, where he was adjudged man-of-the-match for contributing a brilliant all-round performance of scoring 49 and taking a wicket for 18 runs from seven overs.
