A Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) resident was on Saturday evening fatally stabbed by his 27-year-old neighbour during a heated argument over a stolen cellphone.
The dead man has been identified as 33-year-old Marlon Peters, of Lot 46 Gobin Dam, Friendship (EBD).
According to information received, around 21:45h, Peters was heading home when the suspect confronted him about a cellular phone which was stolen sometime back while they worked in the interior.
The victim denied the allegation and walked away, but was subjected to verbal abuse. A heated argument then ensued between the two men, but after a while Peters walked away again.
The suspect then attacked the man from behind, whipping out a knife and dealing him several stabs to his upper right abdomen and back.
The injured man fell to the Dam while the suspect ran in the opposite direction into a clump of bushes.
Peters was picked up by public-spirited persons and rushed to the Diamond hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have since retrieved a black kitchen knife suspected to be the murder weapon near the man’s body. The body was taken to Lyken’s Funeral Home to await a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect who remains at large.
