Fruta Conquerors, Buxton United, Dynamic FC win big in KFC U-20

Seven teams have, over the past weekend, booked their respective spots in the upcoming semifinal playoffs of the KFC Under-20 Independence Cup tournament, which is slated to take place on Saturday.

New Amsterdam United edged Amelia’s Ward out of the competition with a lone goal

With seven games scheduled to decide the quarterfinal teams that would participate in the inaugural Under-20 tourney, spectators at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Centre at Providence have been treated to several high-scoring games as each team sought to get one step closer to the $500,000 prize.
Timehri Panthers dispatched their East Bank Demerara FA counterparts, Soesdyke Falcons, in a 5-1 affair. Tyrone Khan, Shawn Steele, Tyrone Burnette, Shoran James and Shannon Samnauth each scored one goal for Timehri; while Soesdyke’s consolation goal was netted by Johnathan Bailey.
Linden’s Botofago FC overcame West Demerara runners-up, Den Amstel, with a solid team effort. After a quiet first half, Botofago’s Andre Mayers opened up the scoring in the 45th; and Marlon Duke, Kelroy Anthony and Shane Haynes followed with one each.

Potaro Strikers were no match for Dynamic FC, who won their encounter 5-0

Dynamic FC had their way with Potaro Strikers FC, resulting in a 5-0 victory. John Gonsalves led the way with a brace; and Julius Hamilton, Dequan Douglas and Linden Bowman each netted one for the Dynamic win.
The final game on Saturday saw a lone goal coming from New Amsterdam United’s Keon Williams playing against Amelia’s Ward Panthers, granting United entry into the quarterfinals.
On Sunday, Fruta Conquerors vanquished Cougars FC with an 8-0 win. Nicholas Mc Arthur was the star with four goals scored; while goals from Reshaun Ritch, Simeon Hackett, Nicholai Andrews and Leon Richardson completed the eight.
Following Fruta Conquerors’ lead, Buxton United drilled eight goals into Queenstown FC’s net. Kifembe Goodman began the party in the 7th; and thereafter, Troni Semple netted a brace while Jemar Harrigon, Jerome Harrigon, Kobe Durant and Omari Glasgow contributed one each.
Juel Caesar and Christian Bacchus saved face for Queenstown with one goal each.
Santos FC recorded a 3-1 win over Pouderoyen FC to be the last team to enter the quarterfinals. One goal each from Ryan Dowding, Ronaldo Rodrigues and Randy Roberts got Santos through the storm, while Pouderoyen’s consolation goal came off the boots of Stephon Jupiter.
The quarterfinals are expected to be contested on Saturday June 22, and Rupununi FC will join the competition.
