– Berbice leg kicks-off with three thrilling matches
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) NAMILCO National Under-17 Thunderbolt Flour Power Tournament continued over the weekend with most teams recording some massive victories over their opponents.
In the Georgetown Football Association (GFA), four matches were played on Sunday at the Fruta Conquerors ground, Tucville and the homes side made sure they stamped their authority in their first match of the tournament.
Conquerors surged to a 3-1 win over the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) with goals coming of the feet of Jeremy Garnett in the 12th, Malachi Adonis (25th) and Raushawn Rich in the 50th. Adonis goal in particular was due to lighted-feted work, as he dribbled his way past the defenders then dinked the keeper to score; GFC’s lone goal came via a scorching left-foot kick off the heels of Tamiel Hutson in the 19th minute.
Other results saw Alpha United defeating Pele 2-0 due to goals by Shaqvon Favourite and Travis Mc Donald in the 33rd and 40th respectively.
Santos FC inflicted a five nil drubbing over Campton by virtue of a brace by Nazeem Alge in the 19th and 47th minutes. Eon Adams notched a goal in the 24th minute while Cosmos De Santos and Ryan Dowding were also on target in the 28th and 59th minute respectively.
Teon Van Kenic in the 30th min and Shamar Carrington in the 40 min gave EastVeldt a 2-0 win over Order & Discipline.
Over in the Berbice Football Association (BFA), the first round matches were finally played after postponement due to the inclement weather. At the March pass, President of the GFF Wayne Forde made a charge to the players to stay focused in schools and find a balance between football and academics, as the Federation is planning to give students scholarships in the near future.
Public Relations Consultant of NAMILCO Hafeez Khan in giving his address, shared similar sentiments as the GFF President. Khan urged the young footballers to stay in school and learned to become well-rounded students by participating in sports and other extra-circular activities.
When the football action commenced, Corriverton Links beat Mahaicony Thunder Hawks 2-0; with braces coming from Brant Peneux in the 26 minute and Sherman Stewart in the 41st.
The second match saw Paradise Invaders defeating Canefield Diamonds Strikers 4-1. Ntini August scored in the 31st minute and supported by a double by Shafel Deharte (51st and 70th) while Nial Reynolds in the 61st; Odinja Smith managed to score the lone goal for Canefield in the 27th minute.
In the final match New Amsterdam United hammered Leitchfield Nuggets Youth and Sports 8-0 on the back of superb hat-trick by Jamal Butts. Butts scored in the 6th, 9th and 13 minutes.
Dwayne Alleyne also etched his name on the score sheet in the 18th; Troy Monroe in the 30th, Jamal Mc Donald 34th , Osafo Mc Donald 48th and Roshard Davis in the 64th were the other scores for New Amsterdam.
The lone match in the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) featured a drawn encounter between Buxton Youth Developers and Victoria Kings at the Golden Grove Ground.
Saturday’s results
In the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) leg, Buxton United and Mahaica Determinators secured convincing wins.
Buxton United dismantled Plaisance by an 8-0 score line. Coby Durant recorded a double in the 31st and 63rd minutes while Brandon Smith, Ronaldo Fredericks, Joshua Liverpool, Isaiah Anderson, Yamani Armstrong and Tironi Semple scored in the 14th, 19th, 46th, 60th, 69th and 70thminutes respectively.
Mahaica Determinators made light work of Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph Unitedby winning 4-0. Kevon John scored twice, once in the 10th and then the 17th minutes while Nicholas Daw and Kareem Pitt scored in the 35th and 76th minutes respectively.
At the Grove community ground, Yarrowkabra Jaguars and Kuru-Kururu Warriors battled to a 3-3 in the East Bank Football Association (EBFA). Shamar Gillis, Lavern Matthews and Jonathan Bailey scored for the Warriors in the sixth, 58th and 64th minutes respectively while Mellon Joseph, Desmond Chester and Michael Williams scored in the 24th, 49th and 69th minutes correspondingly for the Jaguars.
In the other match, Mocha Champs gained a walkover against Friendship.
The West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) saw Slingerz FC and Wales FC battled to a 1-1 draw at the Den Amstel ground. Shawn Downer gave Wales the early lead as he found the back of the net in the 29th minute. However, Slingerz FC responded as Rivaldo Smith scored in the 40th minute.
