Fruta Conquerors Football Club (FC) will live to play another season of the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Elite League after pulling off a win in the Qualifier playoffs on Wednesday night.
The Tucville-based outfit finished ninth in last year’s seventh edition of the league and, as such, had to fight relegation by taking on the Elite League Qualification playoffs runners-up, Timehri United FC, for the final spot in the 2026/27 season.
Wednesday night’s contest at the National Training Centre (NTC) at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), began evenly poised as Timehri made threatening advances at the net.
However, Fruta’s experience at the highest level came to the fore, fending off the ambitious East Bank squad. Fruta Conquerors had their own advances, but Timehri’s U20 custodian Jermine Mitchell was up to the task, ensuring a nil-all score at the half.
In the second half, Fruta’s Jamal Codrington finally broke the deadlock in the 56th minute. Try as Timehri did, the equaliser was hard to come by.
By the 82nd minute, a breakaway run from Stefon Walton and a chip over the head of the keeper saw Fruta sealing the 2-0 victory.
Following the clash, Fruta Conquerors Coach Jersild Wright summed up his team’s performance.

The coach shared, “We played a playoff game tonight which was a very hard and tough game, which we made on ourselves. But coming in to the second half, we went back into the dressing room; we regroup; we put some pointers together for what we really want to do and execute in the second half, and it all played out well. We come away with a 2-0 victory tonight.”
“Going forward, we just want to continue giving thanks to the father and to our supporters and fans. Continue supporting us, and see you in season eight,” Wright further noted.
As such, the upcoming 8th season of the Elite league will feature defending champions Slingerz FC, Guyana Police Force FC, Guyana Defence Force FC, Western Tigers FC, Monedderlust FC, Santos FC, Den Amstel FC, Ann’s Grove United FC, Fruta Conquerors FC and newcomers Camptown FC.
The League is likely to kick off in August or September.
