Test batsman Assad Fudadin will walk out today at the National Stadium, Providence wearing a green cap but it will not be for his accustomed Guyana Jaguars, since he is now a member of the Jamaica Scorpions for the 2017/2018 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Digicel 4-day tournament.
Fudadin a son of the soil, who has over 4,000 First-Class runs will be one of the main pillars in the Scorpions batting unit, a job he is ready to execute.
“We have a young team but cricket is played on the park with bat and ball. We have some good young players. I know I am the most experienced guy and will try to focus on what I can do to help the team and not put any pressure on myself.”
During his three matches last season, the Berbician cracked a vintage 125 against the Windward Island Volcanoes and based on reports he was productive during the Scorpions’ trials.
It begs the question can he churn out a century against the Jaguars? “Scoring a hundred would be very nice. In fact, scoring a hundred in any match would be great. I would like to score a hundred today but I won’t be putting myself under pressure that I have to do it,” the 32 year-old humbly stated.
The likes of Veerasammy Permaul, Gudakesh Motie and Anthony Adams produced a lethal spin trio which Fudadin will know quite too well.
“These guys [Permaul and Motie] have been steady performers and we just have to play good cricket and watch the ball. Everyone is confident, we have our plans, everyone is focused on their job and if we can put together the stuff we spoke about I think we will do well.”
With three Tests under his belt an appetite for much more, the Rose Hall Town player revealed that his simply focused on his improving his cricket and doing well for his franchise.
“Nevertheless I am coming against Guyana for the first time but for me I am just focusing on getting my cricket better and to do well. The way cricket is going now in the world. This is not to say this is a full Guyana suit or a full Jamaica suit, it is franchise cricket so players around the Caribbean can have the same opportunity that I have which Jamaica has given me,” the left handed batsman who has scored six First-Class centuries posited.
