Sese Norville; Guyana’s golden keeper
Many youngsters in Guyana between the ages of 12-17 while being involved in some sport or the other; cannot boast of having won a National Championship in their respective disciplines. Sese Norville did it twice in consecutive years.
Norville, this week’s Future Star, is a footballer tasked with preventing goals with both hands and feet, and sometimes his head.
The 17-year-old Chase Academy student plays in the dreaded position of Goalkeeper and can brag of winning back to back Digicel Schools Football titles in 2016 and 2017 with his school team. Sese began plying his trade since “It looked like fun. While goal keeping is not the most attractive of positions on the field young Norville was in love at first sight and makes it look easy.
The young custodian first started playing around the age of 11 with Black Peal Football Club and since then , has improved with each passing year to the point when is arguably the best in his age group in Guyana.
The `magician’ between the uprights at times flies like a 747 in order to make a save and just the mention of his name brings a broad smile to the face of Chase Academy Principal Henry Chase.
Norville now plays for the Georgetown Football Club (GFC). He is the club’s first choice goalkeeper in a young squad that is quickly establishing itself as a team to be reckoned with, based on recent performances in the Corona Beer Invitational tournament.
Aside from his domestic achievements for club and school, Norville is a national U-17 player and is currently encamped as the Guyana prepare for the Inter Guiana Games to be held in Suriname later this month.
