The third edition of the Trevor Rose Memorial 5K run was hosted just as the sun rose on Sunday morning where just over 20 runners took to the starting line in front of Palm Court on Main Street along with members of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) who organised the event.
The race then took the route of Palm Court as it headed east on Middle Street and took a left on Camp Street, before heading up to Carifesta Avenue and taking a right on Carifesta, heading to Vlissengen Road, then a left on to the seawalls, after which the runners headed straight down to Pegasus, then head back to Palm Court for the finish.
In a time of 23.44 minutes Johnathan Fagundes was the first man in the open category to cross the line. He was trailed by Sean Barry and Calvin Thomas who made a dash to the finish but ended in second and third respectively. Barry finished in 26.30 minutes while Thomas finished in 26.32 minutes. The youngest male, Justin Pryce and youngest female,  Beyonce Bepeazer completed the task to be awarded for their efforts; Bepeazer managed her feat in 36.50 minutes.

On the other end, Lleweleyn Gardener made a rampant run to finish five seconds short of 29 minutes while Jardine Joseph copped second in 29.26 minutes followed by Alexie Prashad in 31.15 minutes to secure third. Harold Debidyal was the fourth senior to cross the finish line. Meanwhile, there were special prizes for Basketball teams participating and Nathan Saul clocked in the best timings to win that category, finishing in 29.03 minutes. He was followed by Stephan Peters in 30.25 minutes.
Also notably present in the run was 69 year old Louis Deane who had brought second in the Novice Heavyweight category hours before the run.
President of GABA, Adrian Hooper who acknowledged this was the first time the event was held under his presidency to be a bit hectic said that it is his contention that the legacy of Trevor Rose continues to live on especially through these events.
Hooper also extended thanks to the mother and children of Rose for supporting the event while noting that he and the current executive will be planning to move the sport forward.
Rose, a former President of GABA, was shot dead in January 2014 while in a car in the vicinity of Eccles, East Bank Demerara.
