GABF to stage two days of trials next weekend

president of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GAFB), Nigel Hinds indicated that “the GABF will hold two days of trials (selection mini-camp) on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, 2016, to shortlist players to represent Guyana at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC)Under 16 Young men and Women Championships slated for July 2-17, 2016.”

Guyana will be hosting the CBC Under 16 Championships at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.

The trial allows individuals who are not identified on the provisional list, to join the mini-camp as a walk-on or on the recommendation of any affiliated club, coach or any representative of the Guyana Basketball Federation.

Trials which will commence on Saturday, May 28 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown will be from 9:00 – 12:00 Hrs for the Under 16 young women and from 12:00 – 15:00 Hrs for the

young men.

On Sunday, May 29 trials will continue at the same time for both Under 16 women and men.

The players selected after consultation with Youth Basketball Guyana are:

Young men: Yannick Tappin, Shamar Anderson, Kevlon Codogan, Leon Benjamin and Stephon Duncan of Mackenzie High, Kelmar Carmichael, Shamar France and Kevin Wiggins of New Amsterdam Multilateral, Kwesi Roberts and Anthony Yansen of St. Roses High, Andrew Johnson and Nigel Bowen of Plaisance Secondary, Roydon Glasgow of The Bishops’ High School, Kadeem Dover, Isaiah Hintzen, Isaiah David, Keith Adams and Robin Flatts of Kwakwani Secondary, Akeem Crandon, Kareem Boyl and Kenmon Roberts of President’s College, Jordan Alphonso, Jahleel Young, Josiah Daniels, Shamar Atwell and Jether Harris of Marian Academy, Zion Gray and Johnny Griffin of Tutorial High and Jamal Persaud of North Georgetown Secondary School.

Young women: Onika Rogers of Kwakwani Secondary, Daniela King and Odecia Duke of Plaisance Secondary, Jada Mohan, Jahrier Young, Kellian Savers and Georgiana Vyphuis of Marian Academy, Tandika Bouyea, Annlesa Barker and Shaiana Barth of New Amsterdam Multilateral, Kesann Charles, Navalli Pineiro and Jayla Jones of The Bishops’ High School, Ashley Khan of St. Roses, Demelza Nicholas, Annalisa Barclay, Claudia Garraway and Destiny Mc Donald of President’s College.

The trial process includes initial trials, training sessions, (large and small groups) and exhibition games. TheCBC Guyana GABF stated that “they are extremely pleased to be involved with the student athletes of Guyana in preparing for the challenges of international basketball at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation U16 Championships, being hosted in Guyana.”

The coaches Identified are Lugard Mohan (U16 Head Coach, Men), Abdullah Hamid (Head Coach, U16 Women).

The other coaches chosen are Ann Gordon, Mark Agard, Kevin Joseph, Kirk Fraser, Junior Hercules, Kevin Bonnet, Wayne Hinds, Willon Cameron, Julian Haynes and Dane Kendall.

The GABF has also enlisted USA-based Coaching Consultant, Larry Davis.
