Gambling spree ends in murder

Three persons have been arrested and held for questioning following the death of a 43-year-old man of Lot 316 Fifth Street, Rose Hall Town, Berbice.
Dead is Wayne Sundar Singh, called “Whino”.
Reports are Singh was beaten on Friday and received severe head injuries.
Guyana Times was told that the now dead man was on Friday evening seen at a house located at Bulletwood Street, Rose Hall Town, imbibing and gambling with several persons.
His mother, Morti Sundar-Singh, told this publication that about 20:00h, one of her son’s friends visited her home and informed her that the painter had been beaten and left in an unconscious state since about 14:00h.
According to the woman, her daughter visited the house where he was and confirmed the report. Relatives then picked up the injured man and took him to the Port Mourant Hospital. He was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
According to the grieving mother, her son’s face was swollen and unrecognisable. She explained that there were marks on his body that corroborated reports that he was beaten.
Doctors at the New Amsterdam Hospital transferred Singh to the Georgetown Public Hospital. However, the injured man died in the ambulance as he was being transferred.
While details are sketchy about the beating at the Bulletwood Street home, the three men in custody claimed that the now dead man fell and sustained the injuries he received. A post-mortem is expected to be performed on the body on Monday to determine the cause of death.
