Reports are that the six-hour search was conducted at the prison by ranks of the Bartica Police Station in collaboration with prison officers at the correctional facility. The areas searched included the security blocks, special watch area, a condemned section, stores, infirmary, and the dormitory.
While searching the upper dormitory, a black plastic bag was found hidden in the ceiling of the structure. Upon further examination, a quantity of ganja was unearthed.
The marijuana was taken to the Bartica Police Station and when weighed, amounted to 1580 grams (1.508kg). In addition, five Blu phones, two Samsung phones, one Vodafone phone, two Alcatel phones, two ZTE phones, three Digicel phones, one LG phone, and one Hyundai phone – a total of 17 phones – and 17 batteries were found.

Twenty-two packs of Pall Mall branded cigarettes, 24 improvised weapons, six pairs of scissors, five cigarette lighters, two broken mirrors, four cellphone chargers, two smoking utensils, and two knives were also found.
The results of the search at the facility are nothing new as officials are constantly finding prohibited items.
Earlier this year, a total of 970 grams of ganja was found at the high-security penitentiary. This was during a routine search by prison officials. The ganja was reportedly discovered in a grey bucket in the kitchen area.
Following the discovery, the cannabis was handed over to ranks at the Bartica Police Station, where it was weighed. Investigations are continuing.
