Officers from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Customs and the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) today made a significant drug seizure at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Acting on intelligence, the officers intercepted an incoming barrel from the United States of America (USA) at the Laparkan Cargo Shed, where they discovered several transparent parcels containing foreign cannabis.
The total weight of the illicit substance was 2.75 kilograms, and it was promptly escorted to CANU’s Headquarters for further investigation.
In a statement, CANU said this seizure is part of ongoing collaborative efforts with GRA Customs officers to prevent the entry of illicit drugs concealed in cargo and other shipments.
“The agencies remain committed to strengthening security measures and ensuring that Guyana’s borders remain protected against drug trafficking,” CANU said.
