Ganja, gun, ammo found during Police operation along Berbice River

Members of the Guyana Police Force have found two ganja fields at DeVeldt and Gateroy, Berbice River with thousands of cannabis plants along with a gun and ammunition.

First the Police stated that at DeVeldt, a farm with about 6000 plants ranging from three to five feet in height and about 600 pounds of dried cannabis, along with one 12-gauge shotgun and matching cartridge, were found.

In the Gateroy area, another field was discovered consisting of about 10,000 plants ranging from three to six feet in height and a nearby camp, which was searched leading to the discovery of about 100 pounds of dried cannabis.
Police stated that a party of Policemen went to the locations where the two farms were found. The estimated street value of the plants is about $5.4 million while the estimated street value of the dried cannabis is $21 million.

The cannabis plants and camps were destroyed and the firearm, along with the ammunition, has been lodged at the Central Police Station pending further investigations. No arrests were made in connection with the discoveries.
