Ganja, illegal firecrackers unearthed during Berbice raids

Police have unearthed narcotics and illegal firecrackers in separate raids in Berbice.

Reports are that the Police conducted a narcotics eradication exercise at New Forest, Canje Creek, Berbice, during which they found about an acre of cannabis cultivation with approximately 400 plants which measured between two to six feet in height.
Police say a nursery with about two thousand seedlings and a makeshift camp were also found at the same location.
“Everything found was photographed and destroyed by fire,” the Police have said in a statement.

No arrest was made, but the coordinates of the area were mapped with a view to tracing ownership of the land, the GPF noted.
Meanwhile, at about 14:30h on Wednesday, Police arrested an occupant of a minibus in New Amsterdam, Berbice with 8,500 grams of suspected cannabis.
The suspect, a 36-year-old security guard of Buxton, ECD, is being processed for court.

Police also conducted a narcotics eradication exercise at Ekura, Canje River, Berbice. During the 12 hours of operation, the team found and destroyed three fields of cannabis with an estimated total of 13,000 plants measuring between two and five feet in height, a nursery with about fifteen hundred seedlings, and three camps.
“No arrests were made, but efforts are currently being made to trace the ownership of the land,” Police say.
Additionally, Police conducted a raid at Corentyne and arrested a businessman who had a quantity of fire crackers at his Corriverton home.
Reports are that, on Wednesday afternoon, Police were conducting an operation for arms, ammunition, stolen articles and wanted persons.
At the Number 78 Corriverton premises, which is owned by a 45-year-old businessman, a search was carried out in the ceiling of the upper flat of his home, and 30 boxes of Crazy King firecrackers, 19 boxes of Crazy Parities fire- crackers, 204 Crazy Too fire crackers, 40 boxes of morning glory firecrackers, 13 boxes of scratch bomb Toro, 336 jumping jack, 156 Golden Sparkles, 72 sunflower, 108 Electrical Crocodile, 492 whistling double tinder, 486 Magic shots, 17 Bar Rome, 2000 coloUrs shots, 206 Big big brothers and 400 Little Shark were found.
The man was arrested and taken to Springlands Police Station along with the fire crackers. He is expected to be placed before the court today.
