Ganja on kitchen table lands men on remand

Two men who were allegedly caught with over 200 grams of cannabis on a kitchen table were remanded to prison on Tuesday at the Georgetown Magistrates, Courts.
Thirty-six-year-old Jason Carmichael of Lot 318 Lamaha Park, Georgetown and 29-year-old Cordel David of Lasco Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice stood before Magistrate Ann McLennan and both denied the charge.
The charge stated that on June 26, 2019 at Lamaha Park, Georgetown, they had 245 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on the day in question, Police ranks received some information and went to the house. He added that the ranks then carried out a search on two men while a female and a child were present in the home. During the search of the premises, a plastic bag containing cannabis was discovered on a table in the kitchen.
The two men were then taken into custody and Carmichael allegedly admitted to the offence and gave a written statement that the cannabis belonged to him, to the ranks, the Prosecutor said.
The case will continue on July 26, 2019.
