A garbage collector who is attached to a prominent waste management entity, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to the charge of breaking and entering and larceny.
Michael Niles, 42, of Albouystown, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.
It was alleged that on July 10, Niles broke and entered the home of Deonaraj Jagdeo, stealing $1.8 million in cash and two silver rings valued $20,000.
The prosecution’s case detailed that Jagdeo left his home on the day in question to travel to Berbice. Upon his return, he discovered the abovementioned articles missing. Being unrepresented in court, the accused begged Magistrate Azore for leniency. He told the court he has a five-year-old child and a common-law wife.
Magistrate Azore sentenced him to 12 months in prison.
