– enthused about his tactical improvement
National Youth player Jeremy Garrett will have another try-out stint at Sporting Clube de Portugal beginning on July 15, where he is attempting to sign for one of Europe’s elite professional teams when he becomes the age of 18.
Ahead of the try-out which will be his second, the 17-year-old is more than confident that he will give a good account of himself once again.
“I’m very confident. I have been putting in the effort and I have the hunger and I want to go back and give it my all and hopefully I can get signed in 2018,” he disclosed to Guyana Times Sport following a training session with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Academy programme on Friday at the Tucville Ground.
In December 2016, he placed himself on the pedestal for greatness when he had a successful try-out but could not sign since the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) under its Article 19 of rules and regulations which relates to ‘Protection of Minors’, states that “International transfers of players are only permitted if the player is over the age of 18.”
Touting the experience as life changing, the centre-back was advised to improve on his technical and tactical awareness, areas which he says has developed.
“When I was at Portugal they commented on my speed, agility and fitness but the aspects I had to develop were my technical and tactical skills. The first touch was what they told me to improve”.
He further stated, “Preparations are going good with both club and country I must commend the GFF Academy Programme which has been helping my development in terms of the technical and tactical aspect by having greater ball control”.
The Fruta Conquerors player expressed immense gratitude for the support of his coach Samson Gilbert, football stalwart Alex Bunbury, who made the try-out possible, along with his family and friends.
The Chase Academic Foundation Football team captain is also eager to play whatever impacting role he can prior to departure in his team’s title defence of Digicel’s School Football Championship. (Akeem Greene)
