Twelve students who were successful at the 2016 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examination received bursaries from the Guyana Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) Berbice branch
The awardees are Monesh Ramupt and Shekky Momipen from Skeldon Estate; Anthony Umrao, Geneva Hitnarine, Saeed Mohamad and Malika Gansawh from Rose Hall Estate; Manisha Nanda, Amy Inderdat and Youvandra Balgobin from Albion Estate, Simron Ramsahai and Sonie Karan from Blairmont Estate as well as Crystal McPherson from the Berbice Bridge Company Incorporated (BBCI).
At a simple ceremony held at GAWU’s New Amsterdam office on Friday, Branch Coordinator, Harvey Tambron, pointed out that there is no age limit to learning.
In congratulating the students, Tambron noted that their success came with great input from their teachers, who might, in some cases, have also been their parents.
“Our union wishes to encourage them (parents and teachers) to continue to support and encourage you to continue your studies and learning. You teachers must also be commended for your success so far,” the GAWU representative stated.
Three students received double awards since their parents are members of the credit union.
Tambron also reminded that GAWU places much emphasis on education, explaining that the GAWU Labour College established in 2010, allows workers from the many workplaces where the union is a representative, to attend classes.
