On April 27, the World’s most prolific T20 batsman, Chris Gayle, shocked the world with a series of YouTube videos posted on his channel to explain his release from the Jamaica Tallawahs. From a cricketing perspective, the second part of the three-series video left most cricket fans in the Caribbean in a state of shock. Not many would have known that the Guyanese ‘great’ Ramnaresh Sarwan and Gayle were not seeing “eye to eye.”

Three days after Gayle’s outburst, Sarwan broke his silence by bouncing back with a statement denying Gayle’s accusations made about him (Sarwan) playing a role in the Universe Boss’s axing from the Jamaican franchise. Sarwan, the Tallawahs assistant coach, said he responded with the intention of setting the record straight, rather than challenging Gayle.
Given that both sides of the story have been

disclosed to the general public, perspectives in the cricketing world, and especially in the Caribbean, have certainly changed. Some former West Indies players posited that Gayle should have handled the situation better; but, clearly, Gayle, the loyal Jamaican that he is, was very angry at his unknown axing from the team he had led to two Caribbean Premier League (CPL) titles.

In an age when social media is at the fingertips for most, many prefer to voice their concerns on this platform. However, Sarwan issued a full statement, type written and shared on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Tallawahs franchise have issued a statement

highlighting that Sarwan was not involved in this ‘business’ decision. In this gloomy time for West Indies cricket, conditions may be challenging.
Some will argue that Gayle was unprofessional in his approach to the situation, while others may describe Sarwan’s response as professional. At the end of the day, cricket must be the winner.
