The Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) NBS Second Division tournament continued over the weekend, with the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) securing a convincing victory against the Eldorado Cricket Club at the Queen’s College Ground.
After winning the toss, MYO opted to bat first and posted a competitive total of 256 all out in 35.1 overs. Richard Latiff (20), Travis Kadir (31), and Dameon Cecil (40) all got promising starts but failed to convert them into big scores. However, Kelvin Umroa produced a brilliant counter-attacking innings of 52 from 33 balls, striking three fours and five sixes to lift the innings during a crucial phase. Late cameos from Dexter Solomon (28) and Gurav Ramesh (23) added valuable runs to the total.
For Eldorado Cricket Club, Akeem Williams (3-59) and Joshau Ferrell (3-43) were the standout bowlers.
In response, Eldorado CC were bundled out for 169 in 29.5 overs, as MYO’s bowlers dominated proceedings. Sameer Housain was the chief destroyer, claiming a sensational 6-wicket haul, while Abdul Ramsammy provided solid support with 3-29.
Despite the defeat, Eldorado had some resistance from Joshau Ferrell, who followed up his bowling performance with an explosive 61 from 34 balls, featuring six fours and five sixes. Joseph Shivgobin (34 from 52) and Daniel Persaud (33 from 29) also made useful contributions, but their efforts weren’t enough to prevent MYO from sealing a comfortable win.
