President, Executives and members of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) recently showered the five Guyanese West Indies U19 selectees, with best wishes as they embark on their World Cup campaign.
The five players; Bhaskar Yadram of the Everest Cricket Club, Ronaldo Ali Mohamed of the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Joshua Persaud (GNIC) along with Ashmead Nedd and Raymond Perez of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), were selected to represent the defending champs, West Indies U19 in the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand.
The GCA executives took time to wish the young ambassadors the best in their journey as all five of the players were products of various junior tournaments and competitions facilitated by the association in the past.
Coaches from the respective clubs and the Associations were also praised by the GCA for their tireless work in guiding the young cricketers; especially Nedd, Perez and Ali Mohamed who started their careers in the GCA’s Pee Wee Cricket competition.
West Indies won the last World Cup thanks to consistent performances by the Guyanese trio of then Skipper and current West Indies Test player; Shimron Hetmyer, Vice-Captain Kemo Paul and wicket-keeper and opening batsman Tevin Imlach.
In remembrance of the past performances of Paul, Hetmyer and Imlach, all who have gone on to play for Guyana or the West Indies (except Imlach); the GCA executives called on the current five players to remain humble, disciplined and to keep on showcasing their talent to the world during the course of the tournament; as they seek to help the West Indies WI retain their crown.
