GCB/Dave’s West Indian Imports & Exports Educational Trust Fund launched

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) on Friday, April 23, launched the Dave Narine Educational Trust Fund at its boardroom on Regent Road, Bourda.
Previously commissioned to benefit 15 young cricketers from across Guyana, at the launch, Dave Narine, proprietor of Dave’s West Indian Imports and Exports, doubled that number to 30, in an impulsive decision which he deemed to be necessary.
This initiative will now grant 10 Under-17 cricketers from each county the opportunity to benefit from $20,000 worth of school supplies, aimed at assisting in their academic pursuits.

In his address made at the launch, Narine spoke of his observation over the years; specifically, the difference with the quality of life afforded by those cricketers with an education after their cricketing career has ended. He stressed that many with just talent usually fell by the wayside after their cricketing careers were over, as the lack of education didn’t yield them many other opportunities.
The Dave Narine Educational Trust Fund is meant to bridge the gap in prompting academic development, and Narine has said it is dream to see Guyana well-represented in the West Indies team, as had obtained in the past, fuelling his motivation to aid youth cricketers, giving them the best fighting chance, Narine stated.
Aligning with Mr. Narine’s vision to enhance the academics of players, Mr. Hilbert Foster, Vice President of the Guyana Cricket Board, spoke on the importance of an education for personal development, and especially for players, who are expected to understand and abide by playing conditions of the game.
Foster, extended gratitude to Narine for sponsoring this instrumental undertaking by the GCB, and for renewal of his sponsorship of the U-15 competition.
Bissoondyal Singh, President of the Guyana Cricket Board, has said he is especially humbled by Narine’s contribution. He noted that the name “Dave Narine” is synonymous with cricket because of Narine’s continuous contribution towards youth cricket.
Singh described this initiative as a key indicator of development plans to heighten cricket and transform its players using a holistic approach.
Singh, also, thanked the generous sponsor Narine for his commitment and kind sponsorship.
