GCB Female U19 Inter-County T20 tournament 2024: Grimmond, Durant lead Berbice to victory

Valuable contributions with bat and ball from Crystal Durant and Realanna Grimmond guided the Berbice Team to a 9-wicket victory over their Demerara counterparts and to consequent championship of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB’s) Female Under-19 Inter-County T20 tournament on Tuesday at the Malteenoes Sports Club Ground in Thomas Lands, Georgetown.

The Berbicians won the toss and elected to field. Taking full advantage of the conditions, they managed to bowl out the Demerara outfit for 63 runs, of which Naiomi Barkoye contributed 12 as she led from the front. Niya Latchman and Aneesa Chetman each contributed 7 runs, and Demerara were fortunate to receive 23 extras.
Realanna Grimmond was the star bowler for the Berbicians in taking four wickets. Trisha Hardat took two wickets, while Crystal Durant and Kaina Leitch each took a wicket.
The Berbician batters took their time as the target was relatively small; and Crystal Durant contributed 24 runs before losing her wicket, while Tiea Isaacs and Realanna Grimmond comfortably chased the total in 13.4 overs.
Demerara’s Niya Latchman gave her side a flicker of hope when she took the lone Berbice wicket to fall – Crystal Durant’s.
In individual accolades, Naiomi Barkoye of Demerara was adjudged the player with the most runs in the tournament, while Berbice Captain Realanna Grimmond was adjudged player with the most wickets.
