GCB hopeful of hosting over-40 tournament twice per year
Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) honorary secretary Anand Sanasie indicated that the Board was hoping to host the over-40 T20 tournament twice per year in the near future.
After the final at Everest, Sanasie said this approved tournament in the calendar of events was quite fitting to bowl off at the opening of the season. The GCB honorary secretary expressed gratitude towards the sponsors for their aid in making the tournament a success.
Speaking on behalf of the Everest Cricket Ground, the designated venue for the final round, National Assembly Speaker Manzoor Nadir emphasised the importance of cricket serving as a mechanism for growth as well as entertainment. “All in all, the tournament was a success despite inclement weather,” Nadir said.
The inaugural Guyana tournament saw Regal Masters clinching the championship trophy and the $250,000 winners’ prize while runners-up West Demerara Masters took home the second prize of $100,000 and a trophy.
Aravinda Gainda, General Manager of title sponsor Tropical Spring Water, congratulated both finalists and the other teams who competed in the tournament. He added that his company was delighted to be able to sponsor this event and it intended to do so again, in the future.
