President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Bissoondyal Singh, has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with teachers, coaches, technology partners, and – most importantly – parents and guardians to strengthen the development of cricket in Guyana.
This is in keeping with the vision of President Dr Irfaan Ali to make cricket more inclusive throughout Guyana. “We will continue our outreach to hinterland communities to unearth new talent and advance cricket into a modern, inclusive, and sustainable future,” Bissoondyal stated in his New Year’s Message.
As such, he called on the public to join them in this shared vision – united in purpose, driven by passion, and committed to building a stronger future for cricket in Guyana.
Back in September, the Guyanese Head of State had named former West Indies cricketers Ramnaresh Sarwan and Roger Harper to work alongside the Indigenous communities to strengthen their representation in Guyana’s cricket.
“For too long, our Indigenous athletes did not get the opportunity that other athletes had to represent Guyana. I have tasked Minister Charles Ramson, Minister Jacobs, and Minister Sarah Browne-Shadeek to ensure equal opportunity is given for Indigenous communities to represent the golden arrowhead in all national sports,” he stated.
Sarwan will be the mentor, coach, and development leader for Indigenous cricket in Guyana.
