GCB U19 Male Super50: Demerara continues unbeaten run, Essequibo secures first win
The Demerara Under 19s, with their determination to succeed, managed to stay unbeaten as; Essequibo secured the first win on Day Three of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) male Under-19 Super50 tournament on Tuesday.
At the Lusignan Ground, Essequibo managed to bag their first victory as they conquered the Select XI by 146 runs, correcting their previous errors.
Essequibo won the toss and sent the Select XI into the field, as the Essqequibo Outfit took full advantage of the opportunity and managed to score 250 runs within the allotted 50 overs. Shahid Vieira led the batting attack as he managed to top score with 80 runs accompanied by Thaddeus Lovel again contributing with the bat scoring 51 runs, Ranaldo Jeffery(28) and Myhiem Khan(25).
Avishkar Beharry performed excessively with the ball in their hand as he managed to wickets with Nityanand Matura, Deonarine Dindyal, and Natron Gill taking one wicket apiece respectively
Shiloh Adams came out and performed excessively for Select XI as he led the batting attack scoring a fabulous 32 runs but was not enough to guide his team despite Jerimah Hohenkirk contributing 31 runs.
Golcharran Chulai with a phenomenal 5 wicket haul proved to be beneficial as hed the Essequibo Bowling attack as he was accompanied by Mahem Khan taking two wickets with Darwin Joseph and Bruce Vincent taking one wicket.
Meanwhile, Demerara’s class secured a 7-wicket victory against the Berbcians at the Malteenoos Sports Ground to establish themselves as the only unbeaten team in the tournament.
The Demeara Outfit won the toss and elected to the field as Berbice took full advantage of their opportunity, hitting 223 runs within 50 overs with Salim Khan top scoring with 47 runs along with Afraz Budhoo with 45 runs.
Anthon Lim and Mavindra Dindiyal with their length and length consistency proved to be pivotal in Demerara’s Bowling attack as he managed to disturb his opponent’s stumps on three occasions followed by Krsna Singh and Neeran Bani taking two wickets each respectively along with Jonathan Van Lange and Romeo Deonarine contributing with one wicket a piece.
A man-of-the-match performance from Mavindra Dindiyal with a magnificent unbeaten century proved to be enough to guide his team to victory as he was accompanied at the crease by Alvin Mohabir scoring a classy 53 runs along with Sachin Balgobin’s scoring 30 runs.
Afraz Budhoo and Kumar Deopersaud continue to be consistent with the ball in hand as he managed to disturb Demerara on one occasion.
The Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) male Under-19 Super50 tournament will conlude at the Malteenos Sports Ground with the Champions being decided between Unbeaten Demerara and Berbice on Thursday, starting at 09:30hrs.
