GCB’s U-19 3-Day Inter-County tournament 2023: Tornado Isai Thorne blows away seven Demerara wickets

– Essequibo’s Aryan Persaud claims 11 wickets across innings

Isai Thorne claimed 7-33

Guyana fastest youth pacer, Isai Thorne, rocked Demerara with figures of 7-33 as Berbice cruised to a nine-wicket win in round one of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB’s) three-day Inter-County tournament.
In the match, played at Everest ground in Georgetown, Berbice completed the win inside two days, ending victorious on 107-1 in 24.5 overs. On the eventful day one, Demerara won the toss and opted to bat first. They posted 122 all out in 50.1 overs. Rivaldo Phillips was the top-scorer with 57, while Mavindra Dindyal made 20.
Left-arm spinner Jermey Sandia was the pick of the Berbice bowlers in the first innings with 3-33. Jonathan Rampersaud, Isai Thorne and Leon Cecil each had two wickets in the first innings.

Rampertab Ramnauth scored an unbeaten 50

In reply, Berbice were bundled out for 119 in 42.4 overs. Tomani Caesar top-scored with 32, while Rampertab Ramnauth made 22.
Krisna Singh was the pick of the Demerara bowlers with 3-38.
Demerara, batting a second time, were blown away by West Indies youth pacer Isai Thorne for 101 all out in 29.3 overs. Number 10 batsman Anthon Lim made 42 for Demerara, sparing them further blushes. At lunch on day two, Demerara were on 35-7, with Thorne ripping the heart out of their batting line-up. A 59-run tenth wicket stand took Demerara over the 100-run mark.

Aryan Persaud picked up 5-69 and 6-53 across both innings against GCB Select XI

Berbice required 105 runs to win, and West Indies youth batsman Rampertab Ramnauth ensured the boys from the Ancient County prevailed. He slammed an unbeaten 53 from 81 balls in an innings decorated with six fours and one six. His fellow opener Hemendra Gurdayal made 28 in a 49-run opening stand. Zeynul Ramsammy scored an unbeaten 24 as the duo scored an unbroken 58 runs for the second wicket.
Meanwhile, in the other match, played at GCC Bourda, Essequibo need 162 runs with nine wickets in hand heading into day three against the GCB Select XI.
GCB Select XI made 209 all out in their first innings, with Kevin Kisten scoring 63 and Ezekiel Wilson hitting 55. Left-arm spinner Aryan Persaud starred with 5-69 in 28 overs. In reply, Essequibo posted 134 all out in their first innings. Shaahid Vieira made 34, and Wilson returned to claim 3-37.
GCB Select XI then made 157 all out in 52.4 overs. Nityanand Mathura made 30. Persaud returned in the second innings to claim 6-53 in 22.4 overs. At stumps, Essequibo were 70-1. Myhiem Khan was unbeaten on 46, while Vieira was on 19.
