GCC crush Police for dream final with DCC

GCA/Carib Beer T20

The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) secured a place in the final of the Carib Beer First Division T20 tournament after arresting the Police team by five wickets in Saturday’s semi-final played at the Bourda Ground.

Batting first, Police managed 131-7 in their 20 overs, thanks to a collective bowling effort by the home team led by left-arm spinner Anthony Adams, who grabbed 2-8. National pacer Ronsford Beaton was a bit expensive, going for 41 despite claiming two wickets while Joshua Wade chipped in with 2-31.
Mark Gonsalves stroked four fours in his top score of 25, with other contributions coming from Lennox Andrews (20*); Sherwyn McPherson (18) and Jason Heyliger (17), capping off an ordinary batting outing by the Police unit.
In reply, GCC, despite a few hiccups, strolled to 132-5 on the backs of Ronaldo Ali-Mohammed, who scored an unbeaten 30 and Martin Pestano-Belle, who played maturely for his 23. GCC began their chase in typical aggressive fashion thanks to openers Robin Bacchus (25) and Khemraj Jaikarran (22), adding 40 for the opening stand.
When Bacchus was removed by Heyliger, the captain, Leon Johnson sought to impose himself quickly by smashing a huge six over mid-wicket to record his first boundary. The six would, however, be the last of the innings as the GCC skipper miscued a shot and was caught and bowled for 10 by Stephan Harris, who ended with two wickets from his spell.

After Johnson departed, Pestano-Belle and all-rounder Ali-Mohammed repaired the innings after the departure of the top order. Ali-Mohammed was savage during his brisk innings, which featured three fours and two big sixes while Pestano-Belle played a watchful hand, striking some three fours in his, before falling victim to pacer Raun Johnson, who had two catches put down on him at the back end of the innings.
After Pestano-Belle departed, GCC endured a shaky patch as Wade (02) soon followed, leaving Deonarin Seagobin (01*) and top-scorer Ali-Mohammed to take their side over the line with relative ease.
GCC will now play DCC in the final, whose date is set to be announced later.
