GCC Executive Member, Timothy Tucker speaking at the unveiling of the refurbished court on Saturday afternoon explained that “years of flooding and neglect had caused the court to go down and we were able to garner some support from the corporate sector and with the assistance of the squash association we were able to refurbish the entire facility.”Squash (BACK TOP; 3 COLUMNS)

The facility which has new has a new playing surface and raised infrastructure to decrease flooding, is air-conditioned and according to Tucker, the cool environment makes it a bit more difficult for players since their bodies have to adjust and they will burn more calories.

Questioned on the move to diversify sports at the clubs, the executive member explained, “With the advent of the stadium, the support of our members has not been the same of the past so we are looking to diversify.”

He added, “We are looking to bring in lawn tennis, we already have Martial arts, Hockey and Archery, but cricket remains the main sport.”

The facility which is located below the once popular Lady’s Pavilion is opened to new members who are invited to join by visiting the club and following basic administrative procedures to become fulltime members.
