GCCI donates face masks, cash to Hauraruni Girls Home

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), in partnership with Empower Guyana, made a monetary donation to the Hauraruni Girls Home located on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway on Saturday last. In addition, the institution received a quantity of masks to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The home is an Alternative Care Centre for female children who are the victims of abuse and neglect in the home setting. There are currently 25 girls domiciled at the institution, which is managed by a denomination of the Christian Church.
The partnership is aimed at hosting an art workshop at the Home slated for October 17, 2020.
It will entail the professional artists of Empower Guyana Consultancy providing training to the children in the area of visual arts as part of a Day of Painting. The paintings produced by the professional artists as well as the children will then be brought to Georgetown to be auctioned.
The proceeds will go to the Home with a percentage allocated to the professional artists. Unused art supplies will be left with the children for them to further develop and hone their artistic capacity and skills.
