The meeting was organised by the GCCI in response to complaints from members regarding transactions with suppliers in China. The Chamber noted that as trade between Guyana and China continues to expand, it is important for local businesses to have confidence in the credibility of companies with which they conduct business.
Among the issues discussed were challenges businesses faced in communicating with suppliers after payments were made, as well as instances where products delivered did not match what had been ordered.
During the discussions, the GCCI and the Chinese Embassy explored possible areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening confidence in cross-border trade. One proposal involved providing Guyanese businesses with access to a list of legitimate suppliers and trading platforms.
The parties also discussed the possibility of the Chinese Embassy assisting in the investigation and resolution of complaints raised by members of the Chamber.
According to the GCCI, the meeting was intended to help improve transparency in business transactions and support stronger commercial relations between Guyana and China.
The Chamber said the engagement is a part of its commitment to addressing concerns affecting its membership and ensuring that local businesses are better equipped to navigate international trade opportunities.
