The Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities (GCOPD), in partnership with ExxonMobil Guyana, will host a job readiness workshop for unemployed persons who are blind and visually impaired from Regions Two, Three, Four, Six, and 10. This workshop is a component of GCOPD’s ExxonMobil Guyana-funded Orientation and Mobility Programme for persons who are blind and visually impaired. The event is being held at the National Library, Church Street, Georgetown, with Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith, expected to deliver the featured address at the opening ceremony.

Other speakers include ExxonMobil Guyana Socioeconomic Manager Lorna Carlson; GCOPD Programme Manager Ganesh Singh; and Specialists in Sustained Youth Development and Research Inc. (SSYDR) Managing Director Magda Griffith.
The job preparation workshop will expose beneficiaries of the Orientation and Mobility Programme to training in areas such as the preparation of a curriculum vitae, handling job interviews and writing job applications, among other job readiness skills. Since the commencement of the Orientation and Mobility Programme in 2022, approximately 800 persons who are blind and visually impaired have been taught independent living skills, including how to use the “white cane.”
Additionally, 500 “white canes” will be distributed through this programme.
