GDF Commissioning Parade marks promotion of 55 ensigns

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Wednesday held its Commissioning Parade at Durban Park, where 55 ensigns were promoted to second lieutenants after completing the Standard Officer Course 50 and the Reserve Officer Course 16.
In fulfilling protocol, President David Granger was tasked with the inspection of troops which included 374 ranks, 20 officers and the ensigns.

This year, 28 officers successfully completed the Standard Officers Course 50 while 27 completed the Reserve Officers Course 16.
After being presented with their badges from the Head of State, the Sword of Honour was presented to Jehu West and Robert Skeete, while the runner-up Best Student was awarded to Trevaughn Waldron. Best International Student was presented to Mark Choc.
On Tuesday, a Commissioning Service for the ensigns were held at Camp Ayanganna. These activities will continue on Thursday when the officers take their official oath.
Earlier this year, 12 senior officers from the GDF were promoted having received their new badges of rank after approval from the President.
The list of promotions included Lieutenant Colonel Sherwin Anderson, who at that time was pursuing overseas training. He was promoted to the rank of Colonel.
Majors Jermain Cort, Sean Harmon, (Lieutenant Commander – Coast Guard) Roger Nurse, Eon Murray, Ron Caulder, and Drumson Mc Caulay were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, while Captains Ron Daniels, Jose Ferreira, Delrae McLean, Jamie Castello, (Lieutenant Coast Guard) Adrian McLean, and Farhaan Uthman were awarded with the rank of Major.
