GDF drops 5 as Elite League 26/27 opens

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Football Club (FC) and the Den Amstel FC enjoyed wins, though contrasting, when the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Elite League kicked off on Saturday night at the National Training Centre (NTC), Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The double header saw Den Amstel battling Fruta Conquerors in a passionate, nail-biter while GDF steamrolled Monedderlust FC in the following clash.
Fruta Conquerors’ Jaleei Alcindor netted irst, putting the Tucville’ based unit ahead in the 14th minute. However, Den Amstel would respond in the 29th minute, through Calvin Richmond, to level the scores 1-1.
That score persisted until the second half as both sides sought to find the game winner. Den Amstel eventually reaped the reward of their relentless press, drawing a foul in the box.

Cleavon Murray stepped up to take the shot, converting against the stand-in Fruta Conquerors keeper to push the score to 2-1 in Den Amstel’s favour in the 75th.
The West Demerara side maintained the lead, even through a confrontational end to the match to secure their first three points of the extended Elite League season.
Things were not quite as difficult for former champions GDF FC, though, as they cruised past Monedderlust FC.
GDF began probing early, but a spirited Monedderlust managed to keep them out of the nets for quite some time. As the halfway stage approached, Malcolm Miggins pierced the back of the net in the 36th minute to break the deadlock. It was like the floodgates opened as GDF managed to find the net twice more before the 45-minute interval.
Stephen McDonald netted in the 39th and 45th minutes for the 3-0 lead at the half.
In the second segment, Jeffrey Pererira netted in the 81st whilst Quancey Fraser connected in the 87th minute to put the cherry on top of GDF’s 5-0 domination.
The Elite League was scheduled to continue with another doubleheader on Sunday night. The League is expected to wrap up in April 2027.
