Reigning Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League champions, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Football Club, will for a second consecutive year, represent Guyana at the upcoming 2025 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield.
The CFU hosted the draw for the Club Shield competition on Monday, sorting the competition’s 24 teams into four groups of six teams. The draw was conducted by CFU General Secretary Camara David.
The Elite League’s GDF FC will compete in this year’s CFU Club Shield
The GDF FC have been drawn in Group B alongside competitors from Aruba, Dominica, French Guiana, Grenada, and St Kitts and Nevis.
This year’s seventh edition of the competition will take place from July 26 to August 3 in the twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The CFU Shield also serves as the qualifier for this year’s CONCACAF Caribbean Cup, with the champions and runners-up advancing to the Confederation’s 10-club competition.
The competition will begin with the Swiss-format group stage, which runs from July 26 to July 29. Thereafter, the four group winners will advance to the semi-finals on August 1.
The third-place match and the championship match are scheduled for August 3.
All matches will be live-streamed on the CFU’s YouTube Channel, CFU Official, with highlights and updates on the CFU’s social media platforms.
Established in 2018, the CFU Club Shield has a primary objective of advancing professional football throughout the Caribbean. Participation is open to semi-professional and amateur teams holding current championship titles in their respective domestic leagues. The ultimate finalists advance to the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup.
CONCACAF transitioned the organisation and management of the competition to the CFU in 2024. Group D contenders Arnett Gardens FC are the tournament’s defending champions.
