GDF FC gears up for Super Cup clash against Mahaica Determinators tonight

Central defensive midfielder Malcolm McGinns

As anticipation builds ahead of tonight’s Super Cup encounter, members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Football Club (FC) have expressed confidence and determination as they prepare to face Mahaica Determinators FC at the National Training Centre in Providence.
Speaking on a radio programme, GDF centre defensive midfielder Malcolm McGinns highlighted the positive impact of young players within the squad and the team’s readiness for the challenge ahead.
McGinns, who has been with the Defence Force for over two years, praised the influx of youth into the senior team, noting their strong performances in the recent Elite League.
“We have a lot of young players that are coming out and training hard, and they featured in the last Elite League,” McGinns said. “They played well. Kwansi Fraser, who is around 16 years old, scored a lot of goals for his age and performed well against senior players. Jaden Harris also featured in midfield in some games. The young players have been excellent coming into the senior team and the biggest competition in the country.”

The experienced midfielder also addressed the difference between the Super Cup format and the Elite League, stressing the increased intensity of knockout football.
“This competition is much more competitive. It’s not a prolonged season; it’s one game where you have to give your all to progress,” McGinns explained. “We are the defending champions, so we plan to go out and give our all to retain our crown.”
GDF left-back Amos Ramsey echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the team’s disciplined preparation and commitment under their coaching staff.
“We prepare as we normally would – very hard training,” Ramsey said. “We commit ourselves fully, and the coach pushes us to give one hundred per cent, so when we go out there, we can give one hundred.”
With a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging young talent, GDF FC will look to assert their dominance and continue their Super Cup defence on a strong note when they take the field against Mahaica Determinators FC tonight.
