This evening, the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground, Bourda will come alive as scores pf football fans gather to witness the monumental clash between the Guyana Defense Force and Fruta Conquerors football clubs in the GFF Super 16 final.
Following three weeks of riveting competition, the owner of a 2million dollar purse will be decided tonight as the GDF FC and Fruta Conquerors FC go head to head in the highly anticipated Super 16 Cup final. If the final is anything like the semis, football fans can expect goals galore and a myriad of skill from the local senior teams.
The Guyana Football Federation on Tuesday morning, hosted a pre- match press briefing at the ‘I love Guyana’ sign in Kingston where stakeholders and players alike, got the opportunity to express their thoughts on Wednesday evening’s final.
There, President of the tourism and Hospitality association of Guyana, Mitra Ramkumar shared his content with the tournament as he emphasized on the benefits of sport tourism.
“As you would know that we’re promoting sport tourism and what you see here is us getting some heroes out of the Super 16 games. And these heroes with their natural talent will become tourism ambassadors for us. Sport tourism has huge potential for Guyana,” Ramkumar explained.
While Fruta Conquerors and GDF go head to head at 10pm for the championship trophy, Santos FC and the Guyana Police Force FC will clash for the third position at 7pm.
With his intent to win clear, Captain of the Fruta Conquerors FC Vurlon Mills shared that the team intends to win the Super 16, like they did the 2019 Elite League.
“We’re both looking to play 90 minutes and it’s going to be very intense and we’re going to definitely walk away with this championship. We’re going to play as a team and play hard, we going to do everything we’ve been training for all season; the simple things that made us victorious in the league and throughout this tournament,” Mills boasted.
In reply, GDF Captain Sherwin Ceasar was keen to note that the army team has already took home a year end championship and will not hesitate to do so again.
“What the fans should be looking out for is what they have been seeing so far, full excitement when it come to the GDF team. To Fruta Conquerors, I must say welcome to the final, well the army has been there before and we already took a year end tournament, so we’re looking to put this to our second tournament,” Ceasar stated confidently.
GFF President Wayne Forde who was also present at the event, while expressing confidence in the quality of tomorrow evening’s final, shared that he is proud of the 2019 edition of the tournament owing to the increased reach, coverage and skill.
“I would have mentioned that the GFF would have set itself a challenge to make this year’s competition the best for the three attempts that they’ve made. And at this point I must say that we have delivered a really good tournament.”
