Two Guyana Defence Force (GDF) pilots have completed a five-year training at the Chinese Air Force Aviation University of the People’s Republic of China.
Second Lieutenants Steffon Cameron and Teffurn James recently returned to Guyana. Cameron and James successfully completed a Chinese Air Force basic fighter pilot and officer development course, in which they both gained two

bachelor’s degrees, one in Aircraft Systems and Operations and another in Military Science Aviation Flight Command; they additionally earned a professional diploma.
The two ranks commenced studies on September 1, 2013 at the Chinese Air Force Aviation University and were among military personnel from countries such as Cambodia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The programme of study was designed mainly to advance young officers by imparting command knowledge and skills, as well as to train them to be efficient pilots operating under modern information-based systems. The programme included educational tours and visits to China’s cities; exposure to Chinese customs, culture, lifestyle and social values. It was required of the participants to pass the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) level six examination.
Both Second Lieutenants have been welcomed back to the Force by GDF’s Chief-of-Staff, Brigadier Patrick West, who congratulated them on their success. Second Lieutenants Cameron and James will continue their service in the Force.
