An 18-year-old attached to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD), is now nursing a chop wound to his head following a brawl on Sunday.
The GDF rank was identified as Daniel Blair. Based on reports received, on the day in question at about 21:00h, Blair and three other friends were out in the area imbibing when they had a “crosstalk” with the suspect over a phone and a chain.
As a result, a confrontation occurred between Blair and the suspect which escalated into a scuffle. The suspect, who is also from Mahaicony, subsequently armed himself with a cutlass and dealt one blow to Blairs’s head.
Blair was rushed to the Moraikobai Health Centre where he was examined by a doctor and referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment, and later admitted.
Police sources told Guyana Times that Blair was subsequently discharged and is home recovering. Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested and remains in Police custody assisting with investigations.
