Police are investigating the death of a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) following an accident on the Essequibo Coast on Thursday night.
Dead is 20-year-old Jermien Jones of Sand Reef, Queenstown Village, Essequibo Coast.
Jones’s mother, Merlene, told the Guyana Times that her son is a serving member of the GDF and was on leave. He was expected to return to active duty on April, 16.
The grieving mother said she is unaware as to how exactly her child got into the accident. She related that after she received word of the accident she immediately rushed to the scene where she saw her son lifeless body lying on the roadway. The motorcycle was also badly damaged.
Relatives immediately rushed Jones to the Suddie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The distraught woman said that her son’s body and his motorcycle was found next to a speed hump on the road. There was also a cow tied nearby. It is unclear what exactly transpired since there were no eyewitnesses.
Jones’s body is presently at the Onderneeming Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
Police investigations are still ongoing.
