GDF scold Monedderlust to consolidate top spot

Victoria Kings crush Top XX

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stage Elite League continued on Friday night, at the Tucville, Ground and it was Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Victoria Kings being the teams inflict sound thrashings.

GDF steamrolled Monedderlust 4-0 to further cement their grasp at the top of the table with 24 points while Kings thumped Top XX 5-1.

It was GDF’s Sherwyn Caesar who came off the bench in the second half against Monedderlust and bagged a brace to take his tally to 8 for the season; he is currently the leading goal scorer in the league.

Earlier Delroy Ferdinand had opened the scoring for GDF in the first half when he scored in the 14th minute. The Monedderlust defence managed to shut out GDF for the remainder of the first half, however, as play resumed after the break, Carlos Adams scored in the 54th minute to make 2-0.

Caesar who came on for Adams shortly after, only took two minutes to make an impact as he scored in the 67th and 84th to heap further misery on Monedderlust.

Meanwhile , Aubrey Gibson opened Kings’ account after 38 minutes in the first half, however Travis Waterton scored on the stroke of halftime to briefly bring Top XX level with the Kings.

As play resumed in the second half a flurry of goals from Samuel Blackett (55th), Kemron Alfred (73rd), Akeem Holder (89 minutes) and Ruel Williams (92th ) ensured that Victoria Kings eased to Victory.

Earlier in the second half Trenton Lashley was shown a red card in the 70th minute to leave Top XX a man short.

Action will resume at 16:00hrs today as GDF clash with Top XX, while Fruta Conquerors take on Buxton at aforementioned venue.
