A 17-year-old girl’s life was saved after she was medevacked from Mabaruma, Region One (Barima-Waini) by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Medical Corps.
The prompt and efficient response of the GDF resulted in the successful evacuation of the young patient, ensuring she received urgent medical care and ultimately saving her life.
The situation unfolded when the Regional Health Officer in Mabaruma urgently requested a medevac at approximately 01:00h on Sunday, expressing grave concern for the teenager’s well-being.
Responding, the GDF Medical Corps mobilised their resources and conducted the emergency evacuation.
The patient underwent a medical procedure at the Mabaruma Regional Hospital to stabilise her condition before the GDF Medevac team took charge, transporting her to the city for further medical attention.
Led by Lt Colonel Micheal Charles, the medevac operation utilised a Bell 412 crew, which included Captain Dwight Bonus, Sergeant Claude Jones, and Ordinary Rating Mark Bharat. A key player in the operation, Corporal Clensford Burnett, played a crucial role as the ambulance driver, ensuring the patient’s safety throughout the journey.
The teen is now in a stable condition and receiving essential medical care at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. (G9)
