Dear Editor,
Like many persons in the diaspora, I have been watching the race for Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Chief Elections Officer (CEO) and Deputy Chief Elections Officer (DCEO) from New York. I would like to register my unwavering support for Pandit Deodat Persaud, who I believe is the best candidate for either of the two roles. He is qualified, experienced, and most of all—unblemished, with no political history or being tainted by either of the two major political parties—something essential to leading the GECOM.
Going forward, GECOM needs all the unblemished characters and untainted people in the world to move it forward, hence Deodat Persaud can be that person that can truly restore the organisation to some sort of dignity it lost during the fracas of March-August 2020.
