Genesis Football Club since its creation early in the year has proven to be developing footballing talents and emerged champions of the BV Interlock Tournament against Sideline with the score line reading 6-1 at the Beterverwagting Ground on Friday, November 3, 2023.
The encounter started with the Sideline strikers managing to pierce through Genesis’s defence, but the “Best keeper of the Tournament” Jamaine Cumberbatch managed to keep them in the game, by maintaining nil-all scoreline. Brandon Solomon was phenomenal for Genesis as he opened the scoring with a header followed by one from Dorwin George, but then a forceful attack from Sideline’s Lennox Young put the ball in the back of the net to give his team a bit of hope going into the half.
In the second half, the Genesis outfit did not look to slow down as George went on to secure his hat-trick with Trevon Pluck and Raushan Ritch each contributing once to the score sheet to secure their first title.
In the third-place match-up, a fierce competition ensued, but the Golf Runners were prolific in the goal-scoring opportunities, thumping Ogle Street. The first half saw the Ogle Street outfit going one up in the game with the ball coming off the feet of Michael Williams, but Golf Runners’ Darren Benjamin managed to put the ball into the back of the net to equalise going into the dying stages of the first half.
The second half saw the goalkeepers outshining their teammates on the field, but Kwesi Tumbler managed to reply to send the Ogle Street outfit up. However, Tyrice Dennis and Malachi Grannum did not miss out on the chances as they netted goals to secure the win for the Golf Runners.
