Gentle clinches Girls’ U-18 title

Kalyca Fraser made life difficult for her superior Afruica Gentle, who emerged as the victor in the final bout to cop the Sheltez/Homesafe Security Independence Cup Girls’ Under-18 title on Saturday at Harry Panday Tennis Court.

Gentle, who was favourite to claim the title, was faulty throughout the match, but held on to secure the title. The game closed at 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
Meanwhile, at the National Racquet Centre at Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, Maliyah Maikoo captured the Girls’ Under-10 orange ball title. Second place went to Kayesha Harding, followed by Maliah Ramlagen in third and Gabrielle Felix in fourth.

Sarah Klautky won the Girls’ U-14 title after several victories on Saturday also at the National Racquet Centre. Nathalie Ramdyhan filled the second position.
On Saturday, Klautky def Nandanee Ramdyhan 4/0 4/0 and Nathalie Ramdyhan 5/3 4/0 in her round-robin matches. She played Akilah Jones earlier and won 4/1 4/1. Nathalie Ramdyhan was second place with wins over Akilah Jones 5/3 4/1, Nandanee Ramdyhan 4/0 4/0
In the Boys’ U-10 category, Aakesh Panday defeated Ricky Ramescendo 10-8 to go along with other victories so far in the tournament.
