Georgetown, Essequibo battle for points with 1 round remaining

2018 GCB/CGI Jaguars 50-Over League R6

Red-hot defending champs Georgetown will face a tough challenge when they face off against winning Essequibo side in today’s Round 6 main event of the Jaguars League.

Leon Johnson

Fresh off match-winning fifties, Georgetown Captain Leon Johnson and all-rounder Chris Barnwell will want to continue their form. Johnson has hit three consecutive fifties, two of which are unbeaten while Barnwell struck his second 80-plus score of the tourney. Both senior players will want to finish the League with a century given the form they have been in.

Jonathan Foo

Georgetown will also want opener Robin Bacchus to fire after his stars in the last game while Raymon Perez could also play a role in the middle. Bowling-wise, National U-19 pacer Qumar Torrington, fresh off his Most Valuable Player (MVP) performance with four wickets, will play a big role along with Barnwell and spinner Ramaal Lewis, who continues to take wickets.
Essequibo, meanwhile, will feel confident given their form in both departments, Anthony Adams continues to shine with bat and ball while Kemol Savory with a ton to his name along with the likes of Ricardo Adams, Kevon Boodie, Chaitram Persaud and Parmesh Parsotam have been in good form. Windies pacer Ronsford Beaton has been effective with the bat while his skill as a pacer is known and coupled with Ricardo, Akinie and Anthony Adams in the spin department, the champs could be in for a fight at Bourda.

Romario Shepherd

In other Round 6 matches, East Coast with Bhaskar Yadram, Rajendra Chandrika, Chandrapaul Hemraj and others will square off against West Berbice at the Bush Lot Ground. East Coast will want to rebound from their Round 5 loss while West Berbice will want to continue their winning streak.
In-form spinner Gudakesh Motie, half-centurion in the last game with 58; national youth players Javid Karim and Kevin Sinclair along with Leon Andrews starred in the last win and will play more crucial roles.
Jonathan Foo, with two MVP awards under his belt, will be hoping his Lower Corentyne franchise could overpower East Bank in their match at the Everest Ground. The core of the team – Junior Sinclair, Foo and Jason Sinclair – will lead the batting and are in good form while a variety of bowling options will pose a threat to a subtle East Bank order.

Sherfane Rutherford

Dynamic all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford missed a ton in the last game while opener Trevon Griffith could be eying another ton with Vishaul Singh lending support in the stability department. Ronaldo Alimohamed, Rutherford and Griffith’s part-time but useful spin will suffice for the majority of the bowling.
Port Mourant Ground will see West Demerara with Romario Shepherd and company facing Upper Corentyne who are seeking to rebound after being another victim of the Essequibians. Matches are expected to bowl off at 09:00h.
