Georgetown scrapes to 1-wicket win over West Berbice
Jaguars 50-over League
In a match that was reduced to 20 overs per side due to early morning showers, Georgetown managed to pull off a miraculous one-wicket victory over West Berbice at Bush Lot when the Cricket Guyana Inc 50-over Franchise League continued on Sunday.
Set a total of 97 for victory, the visitors limped to 98-9 in 19.4 overs after Andrew Dutchin (3-11), Wagvar Hassan (2-18) and Gudakesh Motie (2-9) looked to architect a stunning heist.
Openers Andrew Lyth Jnr (17) and Robin Bacchus (22) had marshalled the city-side to 39 in the sixth over when Motie had the attacking Bacchus trapped in-front after he smashed four fours and one six.
Shemroy Barrington (05) came and soon went cheaply as wickets began falling in a procession.
Experienced players Christopher Barnwell (03) and Leon Johnson (00) offered no fight in chase. It took Ramal Lewis and young Ashmead Nedd unbeaten on 15 and one respectively to seal the victory.
Early, captain Johnson was the star of the day collecting 5-26 in his four overs while Paul Wintz with 2-6 added the other notable support.
Only Arthiley Bailey (24) (3x4s), Motie with 18 (2x6s) and Kevin Sinclair (16) showed any respite with bat in hand as their side were bowled out in 19.2 overs.
Matches continue today from 09:00 hrs with East Bank battling Upper Corentyne at Everest Cricket Ground and West Demerara clashing Lower Coretyne at Tuschen.
