The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has completed the official handover of football equipment to the four Regional Associations participating in the CONCACAF Bigger Game Academy Pilot Programme, marking another important step in the rollout of the grassroots development initiative across Guyana; the Federation shared in a missive on Sunday.

The equipment was presented to representatives of the participating Regional Member Associations RMAs) at the GFF National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and will support the delivery of structured football activities within selected communities over the programme’s 10-week cycle.
The four Regional Associations and their respective programme venues are the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) – Silver City Field; Georgetown Football Association (GFA) – C Field, Sophia; East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) – Buxton Ground and East Bank Football Association (EBFA) – Diamond Playfield.
The CONCACAF Bigger Game Academy is a grassroots development initiative designed to strengthen community football through coach and volunteer education, equipment support and structured programming. The pilot in Guyana targets boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.
GFF Technical Director Bryan Joseph said the programme aligned with the Federation’s wider focus on strengthening the foundation of football development across the country.
“Grassroots development is central to the future of football in Guyana. The programme provides an introduction to the game for children and offers structured and organised opportunities for them to fall in love with football. Initiatives like the CONCACAF Bigger Game Academy help us expand opportunities for young players and build a more sustainable pathway for football development across the country,” Joseph said.
The October 3 handover follows the initial training phase conducted in September, during which coaches and volunteers received programme-specific training before participating in a football festival at the National Training Centre.
With the equipment now distributed, trained coaches and volunteers will deliver the programme on weekends at Silver City Field, C Field Sophia, Buxton Ground and Diamond Playfield, creating additional opportunities for children to experience football in safe, organised and development-focused environments.
The GFF will work closely with each participating Regional Association throughout the programme, providing support with monitoring and evaluation, safeguarding compliance and programme implementation.
Each Association will also submit a report at the conclusion of the 10-week cycle detailing participation, activities delivered, challenges encountered, and outcomes achieved.
The pilot forms part of the Federation’s broader commitment to expanding access to grassroots football, strengthening community-level development and creating sustainable pathways for young players across Guyana.
Following the monitoring and evaluation of the pilot phase, the initiative is expected to be expanded to additional Regional Associations nationwide.
